They have issued a stun warning to those involved in the practise, saying that they have launched a man hunt in bid to flash out the perpetrators from the village.

Locals allege that the practice has of late gone a notch higher in Suneka area in which Gesonso is part of.

This comes after a minor died in a very complex situation, which residents say resulted from witchcraft.

The locals vowed to flash out those practicing the primitive act noting that they portrayed the village negatively.

In response to their allegations, Gesonso area chief, Jared Oogo, urged villagers not to lynch those suspected to be practicing the act, but instead asked them to report such cases to the police or provincial administrators so that proper legal channels to be followed.

“We do not want to see a scenario which took place way back in the year 2008, where locals publicly burned those alleged to practice witchcraft. We do not wish such to happen in this era where human rights are highly upheld in the society,” Oogo said.

Irene Mwokwabe, a local resident said that witchcraft around Suneka and its environs is on the rise prompting locals to gang up against people purported to be practising.

“Just few days ago, a child was bewitched to death in this area, therefore we as the locals have to act in order to bring back sanity in our community,” she said.
