The increase in the number of street children in Kisii town has greatly affected the economy of the town.

According to the Kisii County chairman of Chambers of Commerce, Benjamin Onkoba, the number is worrying since it is affecting the business in the town, more so during the night.

Onkoba, who was speaking in Kisii town, urged the county government of Kisii to set up measures which will help evacuate street children from the town and its environs.

‘‘The street children have affected the 24 hour economy of our town. We urge our county government to evacuate them so that business people can have peace of mind during the night,” said Onkoba.

He also said that at night, the street boys usually steal from traders, something that had made business people and traders fear for their business.

“Our county has been named a 24 hour economy but if we are not going to put measures in place on how we can end this menace of street children, we are going to lose our business,” added Onkoba.

He also urged the enforcement officer of the county to help the business people at night who have been losing their property.
