Parents, students, staff and other Kisii university stakeholders have been advised to ignore the information that is going round about the closure of 10 universities in Kisii.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday in his office at the Kisii University, deputy vice chancellor, Maurice Amutabi, said the university has not received any official report from the Commission for University Education (CUE) of the university being shut down.
Amutabi further said that there was no way the CUE could close the institution without communicating with the university management. He, therefore, advised CUE chief executive officer, David Some, to communicate on this issue directly to the school rather than using the media to put the message across.
The issue is that 10 universities in the county were to be shut down due to incompetency. The CUE had given the universities 90 days to relocate the students into accredited universities. Among the 10 Kisii campuses alleged to be closed are in Eldoret, Eldama Ravine, Nyamira, Kabarnet, Migori, Ogembo, Keroka, Kehancha, Kapenguria and Isebania.
