Students from secondary schools and higher institutions of learning in Kisii County have been warned against engaging in street riots and destruction of public and private property.

Kisii County Education Chief Officer, David Ogega Kebiro has noted worrying cases of students taking to the streets and destroying of private and public property in the course of the rampages.

Speaking at Nyamasankwa village, Giasaiga sub-location in Sameta sub-county, during a church function to condole the family of the late Johnstone Miyoge Michira,he regretted that there were increasing cases of student indiscipline reported across the County, with students engaging riots as a means of resolving their problems with their institutions' administrations.

Zeroing on the recent riots by students from Gusii Institute of Technology in Kisii town protesting an accident which claimed one of their colleagues and a worker from the Institution, Kebiro called for tolerance among students in case of any problem affecting them.

Kebiro warned students against taking the law into their hands as could cause a lot of damage to private and public property, including lose of innocent lives in the course of the demonstrations.

"As a career teacher and educationist, I am asking students from our learning institutions across the entire County to respect the rule of law and follow laid down channels and procedures to address their grievances instead of taking to the streets, destroying private and public property," stated Kebiro.
