Speaking today at stakeholders meeting at Marani DEB headquarters, Gesieka primary school head teacher Mr. Pius Omariba said the exams {mock} were essential since it enabled teachers to evaluate their students and take appropriate actions before national exams.

“Mock exams were vital in terms of preparing by both students and teachers before national exams. They should be reintroduced so that we can evaluate our students and prepare them thoroughly before national exams”, he said.

He urged the District Education Board from the area to back them and convince education CS Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi  to accept their proposal.

“We have written a letter to CS and we hope our local education leadership will back it. This region is experiencing dismal performances in the national exams since teachers have limited time to test the student on everything hence the importance of mock”, he said.

They defended the traditional mock exam from accusations that it contributed significantly to examination cheating cases in national exams.

“It is quite unfortunate that some people are associating mocks with examination irregularity. Mocks are meant to prepare students psychologically before major tests. They have never contributed to cheating”, he added.

He said internal exams alone would not help them to evaluate themselves against other schools following the recent banning of school rankings in national exams by the ministry of education.

End.
