Boda Boda operators in Kisii town and taxi operators will undergo metamorphosis as they are required now to form SACCOs.
From the analysis made recently, there are approximately 10,000 motorbikes in the town that add up to congestion that is now a menace.
In the event where Kisii governor James Ongwae was inaugurating the committee that will oversee the road safety, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) manager, counties strategies and coordination Mr Daniel Osumba addressed the issue saying that the boda-boda operators should be monitored.
He said that in the past one year 42 lives had been claimed through road accidents under avoidable circumstances. More of which are caused by motorists.
"Bodaboda transport and taxi in Kisii County is a major challenge. The law requires that they operate in Saccos but this is not happening. We must have an order in how they operate,” said Musumba.
He challenged the committee set up by the governor to work with the Urban Planning department to provide Non-Motorised Transport features like flyovers, pedestrian walkways, and bicycle lanes in Kisii.
Musumba said that if the motorists would operate in SACCOs and have their lane, it will help to reduce the menace on roads and also minimize the number of accidents.
