Kisii residents have been forced to travel long distances in search of water following its acute shortage in the region.
The shortage has been occasioned by the blockage of pipes due to heavy downpour in the region.
In an interview with one of the affected residents Alice Nyaboke 24, a student at Kisii University who resides at Upper hill hostel, she narrated how she is forced to travel long distances in search for water.
“I am forced to travel for a long distance to the Main Campus in search for water and queuing for the commodity is tedious,” says Nyaboke.
She says that the problem if unattended to may be a disaster as students now seldom take shower owing to scarcity of water.
Another resident Peter Mokaya, a trader who stays in Mwembe town is forced to travel to Galilaya, which is half a kilometre from his residence to fetch water.
“Sometimes due to my busy schedule, I am unable to travel all this distance to fetch the water,” said Mokaya.
Confirming the crisis, Kisii County executive member for energy, water, and natural resources, Skitter Wangesi Mbugua, said that the problem is being worked on as pipes supplying water to the town from Bobaracho had been blocked due to heavy downpour the town has been experiencing recently.
