The protesters barricaded roads in the town causing traffic jam in the better part of Friday.

Confirming the incident, Kisii County commander of police Simon Kiragu, said the owners of the illegally built kiosks stage-managed demos.

Kiragu warned demonstrators against causing fracas.

He said anyone aggrieved by the step taken by the county government over the demolitions to use proper channels in airing their grievances.

“I warn those who take law in their hands to cause fracas that they risk arrest. If the county government has aggrieved anyone, they should not incite the public but follow procedures in addressing issues,” said Kiragu.

Kisii county Executive member for Lands Moses Onderi had threatened to demolish kiosks in Kisii town that had been erected before approval from the ministry.

Speaking on Thursday in Kisii town, Onderi denied colluding with a section of traders who have erected kiosks in Kisii town near Kisii Central SDA church, displacing others who had kiosks in the site.

He said that those who had started erecting the kiosks in the site were doing it illegally and at night.

The minister said there would be approval on who was eligible to build kiosks in the site.
