Speaking to journalists on Friday Kisii matatu operators chairman David Nyamweya said they were not supporting protests by business community in Kisii town.

Nyamweya noted the transport sector has no problem with the current charges thus no need of protest.

“A section of business people are protesting over increased tax levies. They are the one threatening to attack us. They claim we are betraying them. We are urging the government to beef up security at the bus terminus,” said Nyamweya.

Nyamweya noted that currently they are comfortable with the charges hence no need to join the protest.

Business community have in the last one month protested on the levy increment in the Finance Act 2014.

The demos led by former Kisii Municipality mayor and politician Samuel Omwando, want county government to reinstate the initial charges.

Already there is a case in court challenging the manner in which the county government imposed the changes in the Finance Act 2014.

The case was filed by the business community in Kisii court and is slated for hearing on 11the June this year.
