The scouts’ movement in Kisii University has started to collect signatures from all students and staff members in the university. The signatures were put on a clean white sheet of banner.
This was a way to launch their programme which is a fight against drug abuse in the community and county at large. They started the signatures collection on Tuesday morning which they said it was a way of notifying the students.
According to the movement, students are the most affected parties of drug abuse hence they needed awareness in order to fight this vice. “This banner will be aired as we go out there to spread what we have about the negativity of drugs. Those who signed this banner are real heroes and heroines...” Mr. Martin Ouko, a scout commander said.
On that very day, they sold some tickets to the parties interested in the walk which they said would be held on the weekend.
The university Academic Registrar, Prof Philip O. Owino, congratulated the scouts for setting a good example to all including the staff who to some point are drug addicts.
“I am very happy for you; I believe you will challenge the staff to because some are into drugs too. I hope you will advice them too.” He concluded. Villagers too were targeted in this programme.
