Kisii University Keroka campus students in Nyamira County have a reason to smile after the institution announced securing a piece of land to be used for construction of a library.
This was revealed by the campus’ coordinator Dr Catherine Nyamwange who said this will enable more than 500 students undertaking their studies in the campus to access a resource centre for learning and research.
She said the current library located at the campus’ Otange Plaza was not spacious leading to congestion among the learners.
“This is a plan that has taken a few years because it’s difficult to get land within the township. We have, however, managed and its really good news for us. We have been using a small room despite exponential increase of our population,” she said.
According to her, construction of the library will kick off in early 2016 after securing a contractor who is expected to build an ultramodern library.
“We are expecting a similar structure like the one at Main Campus so maybe by early 2016 all measures to secure a contractor may have started,” said the joyful Nyamwanga. She said that the institution was looking for more land to construct structures permanently and relocate from the rented building.
The information was received well by students who termed it ‘timely’ and called for expeditious construction of the new library.
“We really needed a bigger library for research and we are happy that they are committed towards constructin one. Perhaps we would urge them to expedite the process,” said Omboe Mosiori, a student.
