A 20-year-old Kisii University student has been arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in Oruba area of Migori County.

Kevin Otieno was arrested on Tuesday after being pursued by police officers for one week since he went into hiding after allegedly committing the crime.

While confirming the arrest, Migori County commander Joseph Nthenge said his officers had effected the arrest and Otieno will be arraigned in court today to face rape charges.

“We have arrested a Kisii University student who raped a 10-year-old girl last week in Oruba,” Nthenge said.

The police boss warned the residents against involvement in such acts saying there are very many women of age who can engage in consenting sex and the raping minors should never be witnessed.

“I don’t understand what drives some men to rape small children when there are very many women,” he reiterated.

At the same time, Nthenge appealed to parents to ensure the safety of their kids during the festive season.
