Kisii university students have complained of inadequate lecture halls which have temporarily forced the institution’s management to use tents as an alternative.

This comes as a result of massive intake of students in the last three years majority of them under government sponsorship.

Speaking to the press, majority of the students criticised the institution’s inability to find conducive rooms for study given the intensive heat that is emitted from the tents due to extreme sunshine the region is experiencing.

“It is quite evident that we are being tortured academically. Studying in these tents is awful for many of us given the extreme sunshine the place is experiencing. We cannot continue tolerating this,” said Evans Monari, a third year education student.

According to him, many students cannot concentrate on studies and have taken the advantage to sleep especially during afternoon classes.

“I can assure you that many of us have taken advantage of the situation to sleep when lectures are ongoing during afternoon classes,” he added.

His sentiments were echoed by Alice Mugambi a first year who challenged the administration to improve its facilities before enrolling high number of students.

“It’s quite unfortunate that we can continue learning in these perilous conditions. It is the responsibility of the institution to regulate its intake due to this situation,” she said.

However, efforts to reach members of the management for comment were futile since many of them are said to be in Nakuru for an official trip together with the student union.
