Kisii University Students from Kabarnet campus yesterday took to the streets to demonstrate a notice of closure of the University and vacation of its premises by next month.
The students hit the streets demanding for an intervention from the County Governor Stanley Kiptis.
The closure notice came from the Varsity’s vice chancellor who said the campus had failed to independently sustain itself and has not been able to pay rent for 12 consecutive months amounting to Sh10 million.
The VC noted that the University was becoming a burden and needed to be chopped off.
The students demanded intervention from the county leaders to negotiate on their behalf.
They noted the closure would have a big negative impact on them and called upon their VC to have Mercy on them.
"It becomes hard for us to continue with our daily activities when we are shifted to Kisii University main campus for some of us are already working here," Says Mercy Jerop.
They called upon the county leaders to intervene.
“We call upon our Governor Dr Stanley Kiptis and Senator Gideon Moi to intervene on the menace before the varsity is closed,” said Mary Kimosop.
“Most of us have developed our homes here and moving to Kisii county is a problem. It will have adverse effects on us and at the same time costly,” Stated Samuel Yego.
They took it up with the governor that he had promised to intervene earlier own but since then he has done nothing.
“The governor had promised us that he was going to intervene but up to now they have not responded yet the varsity is on the verge of closure,” Said Gilbert Korir.
