Kisii University Students Union was officially dissolved on Friday at Kisii university sports ground.
The afternoon event ended the leadership of President Robert Nanyumba (Chairman of the Union) and his other union members Kevin Okwara (Secretary General) and Kevin Musyoka (Organising secretary).
Nanyumba leadership which was for the academic year 2014-2015 will be remembered as student unrest was not witnessed like it has been experienced in previous regimes.
The infamous caucus for change has on various occasion attempted impeachment of the Union president but failed.
The occasion was graced by dean of students Ms Gladys Osoro flanked by other university officials. She praised the union for its good leadership.
“I wish to thank the leadership of Nanyumba for having led the student leadership in a desirable manner,” said Osoro.
She further noted that student unrest which was experienced in previous regimes was not witnessed at all. This stems from the fact that Nanyumba leadership has been employing dialogue with students.
The outgoing Union president Robert Salgado Nanyumba thanked student for maintaining sobriety something that eased its work.
“It would have been hard for the union to rule if it were not for sobriety from students. This union should also serve as a role model for future union leadership” said Nanyumba.
The dissolution of the union now opens doors for general election to get new leaders. Reliable source indicate that nomination is set for October 30 and election for November 6.
