Hundreds of students from Maasai Mara University in Kisii town campus have given the institution’s administration a month to relocate them from the town centre due to what they called interruption of learning from the surrounding environment.

Speaking to HiviSasa.com on Monday, they said continued stay within the CBD was hindering learning activities since most of them have found it difficult to cope with noise pollution from vehicles using the nearby road.

According to them, the management has refused to tackle the issue despite constant complaints launched by a group of students to the administration.

“We are giving them a period of one month to find a suitable place possibly out of town. It is very difficult for us to concentrate in class due to noise pollution from vehicles using a nearby highway. They have to listen to us or we do the obvious,” said chairman Peter Odongo.

They said the issue was agent and asked the management from the main campus to intervene to avert a possible crisis that would lead to closure of the institution.

“People normally accuse students of not being objective but the fact remains we are law-abiding citizens unless people interfere with of rights. We urge them to kindly do the necessary,” added Mr Joshua Nyabochoa.

The campus principal, Dr Ken Nyamwaka, admitted having received the complaints but asked them to desist from organising demonstrations since the management is said to be working hard to solve the issue.

“I understand what they are going through perhaps due to unfavorable construction of the building. However, they should give us humble time to solve the issue,” he said.
