Kisii University students have been warned against kissing due to an outbreak of the deadly Human Pappiloma Virus in the institution.
The virus has already seen several students admitted at Kisii level 5 hospital after testing positive to the disease.
“We were told that public health officers are working round the clock to know the root cause of this outbreak. Students are being advised to avoid kissing and exchanging body fluids,” A third year public health student from the institution said in an interview with a local daily.
HPV infection occurs when the virus enters the body through a cut, abrasion or small tear in the outer layer of your skin. The virus is transferred primarily by skin-to-skin contact. Genital HPV infections are contracted through sexual intercourse, anal sex and other skin-to-skin contact in the genital region.
The symptoms include sore throat, severe headache, High fever, Vomiting and abdominal pain.
