Kisii University is set to unveil construction of a Sh5 million multifunction hall in a bid to host large entertainment events within Kisii town and its environs, the institution's dean of students has revealed.

Speaking to Hivisasa.com on Wednesday, Mrs Gladys Osoro said the hall will be customised in a bid to host over 1,000 students during music extravaganzas besides being available for hire to other interested parties.

According to her, the hall is also likely to act a lecture theater in a bid to handle the exponential population of students in the institution.

“We are unveiling the construction of a multipurpose hall especially meant to hold entertainment functions. This will be the first one of its kind and we are targeting over 1,000 capacity due to the increase of the population. It will sometimes be hired to interested parties besides acting as a lecture hall,” she said.

She said that the move was arrived at after a number of students raised the security questions following holding mega events in an open pavilion, hence exposing students to security risks.

“The issue of insecurity had raised and we had to work in speed to set aside Sh5 million. The hall will be installed with a modern lighting system and public address,” she added.

Entertainment representative Mr Dennis Manduku termed the move ‘long overdue’ and thanked the management for quick response to the issue as raised by students.

“This is a long overdue move and we are really happy of it. I am happy that comrades will no longer be using the small Sagini hall,” he said.
