Speaking on Monday in the institution during dialogue between Kisii University management and media students, deputy vice chancellor (academics) Prof Maurice Amutabi said the move will allow media students who were interested in the field to fulfill their ambitions.

He said the institution had procured equipment (turntables and console boards) that will be delivered in the country by August.

“I know most of you really want to be DJs. It is a good profession and we want the institution to produce top lots in the field and that is a very simple thing for us to do,” he said.

“To answer that, I must inform you that we have procured equipment worth Sh10 million that will help us run a DJ department and a quality production studio for all of you,” he added.

The don said the institution would review its curriculum to have media students specialise in a particular field once they are in third year.

“Communication and media will be reviewed so that we have radio production, DJ, print media studies and even TV production,” he said.

This came moments after media students had expressed their dissatisfaction in offering of the course alleging that the institution was not fully ready to offer the demanding course.
