Kisii University has vowed to fight drug abuse and substance adequately, owing to its negative impacts to majority of students who are future leaders.

Speaking during the launch of a three day event, Alcohol and drug Abuse (ADA) committee leader Prof Joseph Mailutha said that with the increased consumption of drugs and substance among the youths, it was vital to hold such trainings in order to save the future generation which is at stake.

“According to NACADA records, the rate at which youths are using drugs is increasing day by day, which is a potential threat to the future generation. It is thus important to have these forums to save our young generation,” said Prof Mailutha.

The event, which is in line with NACADA training and awareness policy will be attended by the NACADA CEO Hon. John Mututho among many other county.

It was officially opened on Tuesday by Vice Chancellor Prof Akama, who thanked the organizers of the event and urged the participants, especially students to preach the gospel to their fellow students.

“I thank the organizers of this event and urge participants especially students to preach the same gospel to their fellow students,” said Prof Akama.

Among other activities aligned with this period will be sports and the official launch of the ‘The Kisii University ADA work place policy, 2015’ as a move towards achieving an alcohol and drug free work environment in the University.

The training is restricted to only registered members of KUSADSA (Kisii University Student Association against Drugs and Substance Abuse).
