More than 300 students of Kisii University's Eldoret campus who completed studies in December 2016 fear missing out in this year’s graduation scheduled for Friday.
The students drawn from various disciplines who spoke to the press in Eldoret on Wednesday complained that their names were missing from the graduation list and may be locked out of the graduation despite meeting all the requirements.
They have threatened to take legal action to ensure the Friday graduation is stopped unless their names are on the graduation list.
"I have cleared all fee balances and even paid for graduation gowns, I have all my documents including a clearance letter but my name is not on the list," said Rotich Makarios, a Bachelor of Commerce student.
"Out of 40 students in our class, only five appear in the graduation list," he added.
The students accused Kisii Campus administration of not giving clear reasons why their names are not appearing on the final graduation list.
"We are not begging to be included in the list, it is our right, our parents have invested a lot in the four years we were in this college, whether Kisii University likes it or not we must graduate otherwise we seek a court injunction to postpone the graduation," said another student Vincent Lagat.
Kisii University Eldoret campus director Dr. Kipyegon Kirui, however, disputed claims by the students saying only 45 of them had issues but promised that their names will be on the final graduation list.
"I am now on the main campus to ensure those cleared graduate, but 65 students who owe the campus more than sh70,000 in fee arrears will be locked out of the exercise," he said.
