Kisii University will embark on the process of marketing its ideals at marginalized areas across the country in bid to have more students from those areas  join the institution to acquire skills that can help deal with contemporary issues, a senior official has said.

The process will see students and part of staff visit more than seven counties among them Busia (Teso region), Elgeyo-Marakwet and Narok over the next two weeks.

According to Public Relations Chairperson Ms. Pauline Nyamweya, the institution would encourage students from the regions to take courses that can help them change their communities.

“We will be reaching marginalized areas across the nation to marshal students to take courses in our institution. We are offering courses such as Disaster Management that can help them handle disasters,” Nyamweya said.

“We will do intensive sensitization in Narok, Busia, and North Rift in a record period of two weeks. They will be able to study here at cheap and affordable rates,” she added.

However, a section of dissatisfied students have raised their concern about the marketing strategies which they termed as ‘primitive’ since it has failed before.

“This is waste of public resources given that marketers are going to be given allowances. This is a public institution that should use the press and other media outlets to market the institution. We still lack essential facilities that should be given first priority,” said Vincent Ogamba.

The institution carried out similar exercise in South Rift ( Kericha and Bomet) late last year and is also on record for sponsoring students to Busia two weeks ago.
