The institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Akama, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the affected families condemning the heinous crimes that are on the rise.

“We need to employ pragmatic approaches to the issue of security in the country. We are in the trying moments and this is the time we need to be more close to one another,” said Prof Akama.

Henry Momencha, head of marketing in the institution, reiterated the VC’s message saying that the higher education fraternity had lost a lot and called for calm amongst students urging them to be prayerful.

“Comrades are in darkest time in the history of Kenya, we need to have hope amongst ourselves in respect to the fallen heroes, it is indeed saddening especially for the families that have been hit hard,” he said.

The university student president, Rodgers Nyanumba said that this is the time security lapses needs to be addressed in all public institution to avert such heinous attacks in future.

“We as Kisii University student leaders will have a security meeting with the management to put measures to curb insecurity and any external attacks by the militia groups,” he said.

The service took place at the university’s sports ground where 147 candles were lit in remembrance of the fallen students.
