Kisii University Students Association President Rogers Nyanumba has called on the government to beef up security in the institution as one of the measures to fight terrorism.
Speaking on Monday morning, Nyanumba noted that students are studying in fear following possible attacks targeting learning institutions.
"We are studying in fear, we cannot even settle peacefully in lecture halls and hostels because of threats given by the assailants over attacks targeting learning institutions,” said Nyanumba adding that the State should enhance security in these institutions to protect students.
He expressed his fears saying that the situation might affect students’ performance because some students have opted to abscond lecturers due to fear of attacks.
Nyanumba’s suggestion come just three weeks later when Al-Shabaab militia stormed Garissa University and maimed 148 students.
There has been fear over other retaliatory attacks from the militia group that has sent students in panic. The latest incident is whereby Migori Teachers College has been closed indifinetly over fear of terror attacks.
This comes just a day after the Student University Association of Kenya through its Chairman Bob Owino challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to put up Police stations in each Higher Learning Institutions to provide security to students.
