Kisii University Vice-Chancellor, Prof John Akama has called for external sponsorship of the university's annual cultural week to increase its significance.

Akama advised the organisers of the festival to come up with a strategic plan that will rope in well wishers and external sponsors to facilitate the event through funding.

The vice-chancellor said based on the importance of the cultural event to the university community, there was need to fundraise from external sponsors and well wishers to ensure the event achieves the objectives for which it was founded.

Speaking on Thursday at the university, the VC said the event was meant to allow students appreciate cultural diversity among different ethnic communities in the country and to impart cohesion and tolerance.

"We must positively appreciate our cultures and other people's cultures to enhance socio-economic development in the country," said Akama.

He observed that successful countries, have clear and unique cultural identities, adding that citizens must make all efforts to preserve and appreciate the diverse cultures among various communities in the country.
