A woman was on Mondayfound murdered and thrown Riana River in Bomariba location, Kisii South Sub-county, Kisii County.

Area residents discovered the body floating in the river on Monday afternoon in Riana River.

Community policing members from the area reported the discovery to Gesonso police officers who visited the scene and took the body to Nyangena Hospital.

“We received a report from community policing officials in the area led by chair Richard Morara,” said county police commander Ms Agnes Mudambi.

Mr Morara said he was called by shocked villagers who had sighted the body while on their way to fetch water.

“I was called by one Ms Pacifica Bonareri who said she and her three colleagues had spotted a body floating on the river’s surface outside Boroko village, Boroko sub-location, on their way to fetch water,” said Mr Morara.

The deceased was identified as Judy Begi, a 25 year old Boroko resident.

According to the police boss, the body had injuries on the head and stab wounds on the neck and stomach.

“Her body was marked with head injuries consistent with assault by a blunt weapon and stab wounds in the neck and stomach. We suspect the woman was killed elsewhere before being dumped in the river,” said Ms Mudambi.

She said her officers were yet to speculate on the motive of the attack or identity of the killers.

“We have not received any information that night lead us to the culprit behind the crime since no witnesses have come forward to volunteer information on her death,” said the Ms Mudambi.

Police have launched investigations into the incident that has left the village in shock.

Residents called on police to intensify patrols in the area, saying they feared for their lives.

“If an adult can be killed in broad daylight, then how safe are we and our children? Police need to quickly get to the bottom of this matter, said Ms Jane Mogunde,” an area resident.

The body is at Nyangena Hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.
