Women in Kisii County have formed a Sacco, targeting 45,000 members to benefit from its economic empowerment projects.

The women intend to use the Sacco as a vehicle to fight poverty through investment in income generating activities and employment creation.

Addressing 30 Sacco women members on Thursday from the larger Gucha Sub-County during a workshop at Sameta, nominated senator, Janet Ong’era challenged the women to stop wallowing in poverty and join cooperative movement.

Ong’era challenged the women in the county to work hard to uplift their economic welfare.

She noted that each ward would have a Sacco project whose multiplier effect will benefit families and transform the county economically.

Ong’era who was the patron of the County Women Empowerment Sacco, said the new outfit will incorporate NGOs, devolved kitties and development partners to pool together funds for loaning to the women.

She added that as a revolving fund, the women will be required to raise their contributions if they wanted to be empowered through the loans and pledged to allocate some funds to the Sacco.

The senator clarified that the Sacco’s, membership was open irrespective of one’s political party affiliation and promised to pay registration fee for the first group of 100.
