Women in Bomachoge Chache constituency have urged the area Mp Simeon Ogari to involve them in key decision making and in the development agenda for the constituency.
According to one of the women who were in a meeting in Tendere Esther Ombui said most women in the area are not aware when their area MPs calls for meetings to discuss on their development plans and even if they were, they were mostly held up with home chores.
She further told claimed that whenever an MP called for any meeting, the preconceived notion was that he was going to talk about politics in which majority of women in the constituency were less interested.
Another woman, Aska Kerubo, said that men still thought that women could not comment on anything tangible about development and that was why there were hardly given a chance to speak in such forums
“My husband threatens never to find me wasting time in the meetings called by the area MP since he does not contribute in any way to put food on my table. I should instead concentrate on better things like ensuring that our retail shop is open all day long for the children to get something to eat in the evening,” she explained.
Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairlady in the constituency, Ann Masenge said that women in the area were a disadvantaged lot and she always found herself alone in strategic forums where development matters about the constituency were discussed.
When she inquires further on why the situation was like that, fellow women tell her that men did not regard their contribution to be important in such forums which discouraged them from attending, she said.
“Women are on the ground and strain in ensuring that things are put in place. They literally run their homes and men just supervise only to reprimand when things seems not to be going right,” she said.
