Chitago sub county youth officer, Margret Onsongo has advised youths in the area to develop and embrace culture of entrepreneurship as a way of creating self employment as opportunities.

Addressing youth in anti-drug campaign seminar in Chitago this morning, she said that due to the overwhelming number of graduates from various institutions, securing formal employment is not all that easy since there are limited job opportunities, and she urged youths to be more innovative and engage in entrepreneurship to earn living.

“To survive in the current competitive world, youths should be open minded and utilize every opportunity that comes their way mainly by embracing culture of entrepreneurship,” she said.

The youth officer reiterated the unemployment rate in the country will remain high since thousands of graduates enter the labour market every year and thus many will not secure white collar jobs.

On this account, the officer urged youths to diversify their job seeking strategy by initiating entrepreneurial activities to better their living.

“Good entrepreneurs do take challenges boldly by becoming great innovators to create own jobs. Every opportunity should not be spared at all in order have liveable life,” she said.

She advised youths to take advantage of the government support funds such as youth enterprise development fund, Uwezo fund among others so as to start small and medium businesses and earn living.
