An MCA from Kisii has urged youths to turn up in large numbers during general elections to vote their preferred leaders in various elective positions.
Speaking at Chitago-Borabu ward in South Mugirango, Hon. Albert Oino lamented that many youths failed to show up in major elections despite being genuine voters and later on starts complaining of bad governance and misrepresentation.
Mr. Oino said youths had an ability to vote their preferred candidate in an election but unfortunately, many of them ignores voting exercise, giving elders an opportunity to decide the winner of a poll.
“There is a common trend among youths of failing to turn up during major polls to make a decision. These are the same people who complain of bad governance yet they ignore choosing right leaders,” he said.
“As youths, we have an opportunity in every election to decide who wins. However, we fail to capitalize on this opportunity and elders make major decisions in elections,” Mr. Oino added.
He challenged youths to make good use of their voting cards by electing visionary leaders who would fight for their rights in areas of governance.
“The only solution to this is to rethink. During elections, let us turn up in large numbers and make a change through voting. Otherwise, we will always cry foul over poor leadership,” Oino said.
End.
