The youth who are eligible for employment in Kisii County have been earmarked to benefit from a World Bank funded project being implemented by National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).
About 4,000 out of 5000 youths are targeted for funding by the World Bank will access money to start businesses from the Kenya Youth and Employment Opportunities project.
NITA director, Stephen Ogenga told stakeholders forum (Nyanza Regional) at a seminar in a Kisii town hotel that they would be required to support the project since it is their youths in their areas who will benefit.
“NITA has picked Kisii County as one of the implementing areas of the four-year project and has also urged the county government to fund the deficit of 1,000 youths,” Ogenga revealed.
Ogenga said the county government should take advantage of the enacted law on enhanced fund allocations to devolved units to support the project.
Deputy Governor, Joash Maangi disclosed existing opportunities by the county government to empower the youth through a county a joint loans board and a credit scheme for women and the disabled.
The amount allocated to the kitties revolving, he said, will be increased depending on the response from the beneficiaries and success of their activities.
According to Maangi, the county government was also committed to sustaining a 24-hour economy in Kisii town after installing street lights alongside other urban centers.
Businesses, he remarked, operated under a conducive environment owing to enhanced security.
