A group of youths from Kisii County have constituted a 'youth bunge' that will be mandated to advocate for the rights of young population besides looking for ways of empowering them economically.
This comes amidst complaints that the county government has done little to help the youthful population that constitutes majority of the county residents.
Led by Eve Obonyo, the group comprises two youths from every sub-county and will be traversing the region to hold public participation forums among the youths on the way forward.
“The idea of forming Kisii County Youth Bunge is long overdue. We have been registered by authorities and what now remains is to familiarise the group to our youths. Regional balance was taken care of because all the nine sub-counties have two representatives making it idea for our people,” she said.
She dismissed politicians who have allegedly been behind the bureaucratic registration procedures and vowed to fight alleged impunity in governance.
“Some people were fighting hard to lock us out but we have managed to reach this far. Let them be ready to face the youth because all we need is transparent leadership. All leaders must be accountable and we will condone nothing less than that,” he said.
Chitago-Borabu ward MCA Albert Oino supported the initiative and urged the newly constituted group to put the interests of the youth first to minimise chances of disintegration.
