Addressing youths today, during a ceremony aimed at marking an end to the Anti-Drug week in Suneka sub-county, John Ombati said the county needs energetic youths who can work and carry out different businesses to develop themselves economically.

The fight against drug abuse in Kisii County was organised by the Kisii county government with an aim of reducing the drug abuse rate in the county.

The program attracted grassroots leaders, teachers and police, all who aimed at sensitising the youth against drug addiction.

“We have identified vocational training for the youth as a foundation for self-reliance, but they have to refrain from drugs if they want to benefit. You can’t train youth who are subject to mental consequences of drug addiction. It would be fruitless,” he said.

He also added that the county will soon introduce a special programme for the school dropouts and former drug addicts.

They will access free vocational training in various fields that will see them empower themselves economically.
