Youths in Kisii County have been urged to use social media platforms to develop themselves economically and stop spreading hate.
According to Kisii County information officer Jonathan Nyakwara, there is a steady increase in irresponsibility and recklessness in the use of the communication platform, adding that misuse of social media by the youth in the county may cause harm and chaos among themselves.
“I am genuinely concerned at the rampant misuse of social media by the youth, and I have observed plain irresponsibility and recklessness in some users of these platforms,” said Nyakwara.
Nyakwara also added that social media users should engage with others to grow economically, instead of using it as a wrangle platform and spreading hate and politics that will not help them at the moment.
“In the current world we are living, we should not forget that we can use social media to earn, not only to give views, I caution social media users against infringing on other people's rights with the poor excuse of passing a message,” added Nyakwara.
He was addressing youth groups in Kisii County, who had met with an agenda of community development projects in Kisii town.
