The ongoing renovation of Kisii County staff quarters may be a subject to debate after a section of county leaders questioned the whole process.
The quarters have been used previously to host workers of the defunct municipal government, before they were kicked out to pave way for renovation, after which county executives are set to occupy them.
But on Monday, residents, led by Evans Siko (Sameta) and Albert Oino (Chitago-Borabu) questioned the process and tasked the executive to reveal the amount of money that was allocated to the project.
“We have seen houses being renovated to host county executives and we aren't told the amount of money that will be used and by whose permission the exercise is taking place. We are representatives of the people yet nothing has come forward for approval in the county assembly,” Oino said.
Siko said he will seek the audience of the Housing and Roads committee to summon the county executive to explain the concerns of the residents, since the excursive is said to have been done ‘in darkness’.
“No one was involved and we have to know how much is being used and who approved it. The committee in charge of roads and housing must summon CeC Eng John Omwoyo since we fear that millions of tax payers’ money may be wasted,” he said.
They were unanimous that the houses be reserved for hundreds of post-election violence victims of 2007/08 skirmishes, whom the government has allegedly failed to compensate.
