Kisumu International Airport Manager Joseph Okumu has announced that the airport has made tremendous growth in the recent past, especially on the number of passengers.
Okumu said this year, they expect to handle about 400,000 passengers at the newly refurbished international airport.
He said there are also several business opportunities at the airport due to availability of enough space that should be explored.
Okumu said they are looking for prospective business people, who will be able to partner with the airport facility to do business.
“We still have enough space that can accommodate hotels and other facilities, we are looking for potential investors who can partner with us to develop this opening space,” he said.
He noted that the airport has a capability of generating an estimated of 40,000 jobs directly, and another 400,000 indirectly if its potential is fully utilized.
Speaking to this reporter at the airport, Okumu said tourism has also flourished because of the airport, adding most travelers are coming in to visit the several tourism sites in Western Kenya tourism circuit.
Okumu noted that with the expansion works still ongoing at the airport, its completion will open up the region economically.
“The cargo section is under construction and will be completed soon, that will allow our people to start exporting and importing goods,” he said.
