Kisumu All Stars winning streak in the second tier National Super League (NSL) came to a halt on Tuesday afternoon after the team lost 2-1 away to Coast-based Modern Coast Rangers, in a game played at the KPA Mbaraki Sports stadium.
"Tough luck. We live to fight another day as Shadrack Omondi's goal in the 80th minute wasn't enough to push the fighting spirit to get at least a point from Mombasa," posted the team on its official Facebook page after the match.
The Nickanor led Blues Eagles headed into the match on a hot winning streak of five games in a row, but the loss in Mombasa will now draw the team back to the drawing board ahead of the next NSL fixture.
Before the Mombasa match, the team's last outing was a 1-0 win against Administration Police (AP) last Thursday at the Kisumu's Moi Stadium.
Kisumu All Stars remain 4th on the NSL table with 17 points, after 9 rounds of play this season, three points behind leaders Western Stima.
The Kisumu County sponsored side is gunning for a pot in the Kenya Premier League (KPL) action next year, after only one season in the NSL.
The team faced Modern Coast Rangers amid murmurs of players having not been paid salaries and allowances.
The side replaced Palos FC in NSL. Palos was disbanded at the tail end of last year, due to financial constraints.
