Director Atieno has said that many cholera cases reported across the country emanated from public food vendors.

“We are trying to ensure that the root cause of cholera is managed to avoid more deaths, banning food vending will not be a solution because people depend on it for a living so improving hygienic conditions is the only viable solution,” said Atieno.

Atieno who was addressing Journalists in Kisumu on Tuesday after inspection of food stalls said that those violating the lain down guidelines meant to curb cholera spread will be arrested and prosecuted.

She however commended the local vendors for doing a good job in terms of observing cleanness in their sorrounding.

“Among the many places I have visited, this area has really stood out to be among the best for ensuring that human health is considered when preparing food for sale, I really commend the vendors for a job well done,” said Atieno.

She assured the residents that there was no need for panic as the county government has stepped measures to curb cases of cholera. She added that they were equipped to deal with any cholera case that might arise within the county.
