Youthful Machakos County stunned heavyweights to win the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games soccer title for the first time.

They trounced Nairobi 3-0 in the final match at the Machakos Teachers Training College on Saturday.

Martin Mumu, Anthony Mutisya, and Nicholas Mumo scored a goal each to end the dreams of two-time champions who were gunning to win back the trophy after losing to Kisii in Thika last year.

Machakos showed their intentions clear when they beat 2015 runners-up Busia 4-1 in the semifinals. They had also knocked out favourites Uasin Gishu in the quarterfinals and Mombasa in the round of 16.

Kisumu who lost 4-3 on penalties to Nairobi in the semi-finals were contented with third place after edging Busia County 1-0 in the playoff match. Walter Obija scored the lone goal in the 41st minute.

Uasin Gishu asserted their supremacy in Kicosca and County Assembly Sports Association (Casa) volleyball categories.

In Kicosca men, Uasin Gishu beat former champions Nakuru 3-1. The Ladies team beat defending champions Nairobi 3-0. In Casa men Uasin Gishu beat Kericho 3-0 in the final dubbed the Northern derby while their ladies counterparts beat Nairobi 3-0 to complete a clean sweep in volleyball.

The Senate women volleyball team had something to celebrate when they lifted the Casa netball title, beating Busia County Assembly 12-8 in the final.

Kwale were Casa soccer men champions after beating Siaya 1-0 in the finals.

Nairobi won the overall title in both Kicosca and Nasa categories in the final graced by Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Malit and his Busia counterpart Moses Mulomi.
