The High Court in Kisumu, will on Monday, July 24, issue a ruling in a case in which three Kisumu voters moved to court over the exact period of announcement of presidential results. The three, Jackeline Otieno, Francis Ogada and Titus Alila want the Judiciary to issue a guideline to the electoral body, on whether to reduce the window period for IEBC to announce presidential results from seven days to 7 hours, upon completion of voting exercise. They argued that the seven days timeline allowed by the Constitution for the declaration of presidential results is too long and that the delays in announcing the provisional election results can cause chaos.Their lawyer Ken Amondi, said his clients were only seeking constitution interpretation, over the matter, adding that the presidential results can be declared promptly, if IEBC is compelled. The three told Justice David Majanja that their petition is in the public interest because Kenyans have invested Sh3 .8 billion shillings in the Kenya Integrated Election Management System to ensure electronic transmission of results from the constituencies to the national tallying center on time.
