The Kisumu County government has finally conducted interviews for candidates who showed interest to be the Kisumu City manager.
Six candidates applied for the job when it was advertised sometime last year, with the current acting city manager, Doris Ombara, and former town clerk Christopher Rusana among the applicants.
However, Rusana dropped out after she was employed as the Migori County secretary, and the Kisumu County Public Board continued with their plans and completed conducting interviews for the remaining five candidates.
One of the board members who spoke on condition of anonymity said the process went on well and plans are underway for Kisumu to have a city manager.
“I cannot confirm to you when the results will be out but I want to assure you that very soon, Kisumu City will have a manager,” he said.
Ombara, who has been on acting capacity since last year is credited with reverting back Oile market to a park, with the traders who were doing business at the park taken to different markets in the city.
Ombara has been praised and criticised in equal measure with her style of leadership, and it will be seen if she retains the seat.
Plans are also underway to relocate all hawkers within Oginga Odinga Street to a different location to decongest the town.
