The clergy in Kisumu County have come out to condemn excessive use of force by police officers in engaging protesters in Kisumu County and its environs.

“We shall not be compelled to vote by using force or intimidation and if this persists we shall be forced to defend ourselves,” said Anglican Church bishop David Godia who represented the clergy of Kisumu County in a press briefing Friday.

Also in the meeting was Kisumu governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o who echoed the sentiments of the clergy.

He went ahead to present statistical values of the number victims of police brutality.

The leaders also warned IEBC against transporting ballot boxes to Kisumu for the postponed repeat presidential elections stating that they will be met with the same or even greater resistance from the residents.
