Recently, the City Management of Kisumu under the Kisumu Urban Project initiative had moved to erect floodlights in the city estates as well as streetlights in the Nyalenda slums.

Kisumu Minority leader Edwin Anayo has asked the county government to use solar powered floodlights and streetlights so as to cut on electricity costs that is incurred from them.

Anayo said that the money used to pay the huge electricity bills can be directed towards other development projects in the city.

“Uyoma in Siaya County has adopted solar powered street lighting system and its high time Kisumu followed suit as this will help us save money that can be used in the development of many things in Kisumu,” said Anayo.

Speaking during a church service at Victory SDA church yesterday, the Market/Milimani ward representative lauded the county government’s initiative to erect floodlights and streetlights in the town but asked Governor Jack Ranguma to look into ways in which they could cut on costs.

“Devolution is still young in Kenya today and we need to be careful in our expenditures as a county,” advised Anayo.
