This was to be implemented last year after all the MCAs were bought iPads but some of them protested that they have not acquainted themselves with the devices.

Beginning yesterday, all MCAs are receiving motions via their iPads.

Temporary Speaker Samuel Ombogo said the directive was to take effect from April 1 this year but was delayed a bit.

“Members as you are aware, the assembly has now gone digital and there is WI-FI for your use,” he said.

However, one member, Kolwa East ward representative Osumba Olum protested that he has no iPad and will be disadvantaged by the new directive.

When the Speaker insisted that the directive takes effect immediately, Olum was seen walking out in protest but later returned and could be seen straining to share with his colleagues their iPads.

“Mr Speaker Sir, you are all aware that I do not own an iPad and now you are giving the directive that the assembly goes digital, how will I survive,” he posed.

His concern however went unanswered as the members concentrated on their iPads to follow the proceedings where the committee on labour was giving their report.

The assembly has in the past said they are incurring huge expenses on printing materials for the MCAs thus the need for the assembly to go digital.

This prompted the purchase of iPads to the MCAs to cut on cost of printing.
