Kisumu County Assembly has welcomed the ruling by the Industrial Court on contempt by two of their clerks.
The assembly majority leader Samuel Ongou said Judge Helen Wasilwa interpreted the law very correctly.
“We are very happy as an assembly that the Judge has found out that the assembly did not disobey the court order,” he said.
Ongou said the assembly was not in contempt save for the two Clerks adding that the assembly will continue discharging its duties as usual.
“The assembly is not deterred by the ruling. Our sessions will go on as usual without any fear,” he said.
However, Ongou said they were dismayed by one of the assembly staff who addressed a press conference after the court case.
He said no member of the staff has the authority to speak to the press without authority from the Speaker.
Ongou announced that on Monday the County Assembly Service Board will meet and take action against the particular staff.
“No assembly staff is allowed to address the press without any prior knowledge of the Speaker who must give authority,” he said.
He at the same time directed the staff in question to write an apology letter to the assembly.
Judge Wasilwa Wednesday morning fined the acting clerk Owen Ojuok and his deputy Stephen Okola Ksh200,000 each or one month jail term for being in contempt of the court.
