The Kisumu County government is in the process of creating a land bank to reduce the process of buying land especially for investors in the Lake side city.
The process is being spearheaded by the county’s Physical Planning, Lands, Housing and Urban Development department.
According to the Chief Executive Committee (CEC) member in charge of the department Mr. Nerry Achar, the bank will have vital information such as land ownership details.
“We are creating land banks for investors who may want to come in and they don’t want to waste their time going through the process of buying land, and they are not sure whether the land they are buying is authentic or not,” said Mr. Achar.
“We are doing these in order to increase investments in our county,” he added.
Speaking in his office on Monday, the CEC advised Kisumu residents who own land and do not have title deeds to acquire the document as a sure way of dealing with land grabbers.
On housing, the county government official said that plans to construct between 5, 000 to 10, 000 new houses across the county were at an advanced stage.
He said the plans will be unveiled soon after all factors have been put in place.
