Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has revealed that plans are underway for the county government to buy Chemelil, Muhoroni and Miwani Sugar Company.
Speaking in Kisumu on Monday during Madaraka day celebrations, Ranguma said that although the county government does not have enough money they are planning on how to buy the three factories.
"Currently we do not have enough money to purchase the factories but we are looking for funds to buy them,” said Rangma.
The governor added that Kisumu has put in place structures and mechanisms to facilitate public participation in the privatisation of Miwani, Muhoroni and Chemelil sugar factory.
He noted that his government has requested the state several times to transfer the factories to Kisumu County Government.
"The companies must be privitisised hence need for the national government to give priority the counties where the factories are based," he said.
"I was voted in on the basis of the success of Muhoroni Sugar company in my time.I am prepared to buy all the three factories for the people of Kisumu," added Ranguma.
Kisumu Governor said that the county government is committed in ensuring that these assets are fully owned by our farmers and our residents and not people from other counties.
