A Kisumu based human rights activist has urged the county government to distribute mosquito nets to residents as part of El nino preparation.

John Ogolla on Monday said that the county government has been preparing for the rains, but nobody is dealing with the possible malaria outbreak.

Ogolla further said the the county government should also consider the health risks associated with rains such as diseases like malaria and set up the necessary precautions.

"The county government should consider distributing nets as one of the priorities with regards to the El nino rains preparations," said Ogolla.

Ogolla added that malaria is a big threat to many households in the region and therefore all resources should be pulled together to fight it especially when the risk is high. He also noted that the county government should generally be able to account for all the money set aside to tackle El Nino.

"At some point this El nino rains will come to end we will require accountability on how the tax payers money was spent," he said.
