Kisumu County government has been challenged to transform agriculture in the county through agri-business and value addition.

Kisumu Business Coalition chairman Israel Agina, challenged the county government to transform agriculture in the area to ensure food security.

Speaking to this writer at Kisumu Hotel today, Agina said that turning agriculture into agri-business and value addition is the way to go for counties.

The business stakeholder challenged the county government to ensure that necessary measures were put in place to increase the income of the common farmers who do much of the agricultural work.

He also asked for the privatisation of cane industries to eradicate the frustrations that the cane farmers go through.

“Let us encourage our farmers to embrace diversification in their farming as this ensures productivity in the market. This can be best done by the county government as part of the efforts in empowering our farmers,” he said.
