Kisumu Jua kali members have challenged Kisumu county government to improve the sector in the region.
Kisumu-based human rights activist Killen Omondi challenged the government to allocate funds towards the industry.
He asked the government to support the jua kali industry by supporting them with funds and also by marketing them, as most locals depend on it.
“By marketing the jua kali industry, members will have proper market hence improved sales to boost the trade,” said Omondi.
Jua kali group association chairperson Tom Okello also challenged the county government to allocate more funds and support the industry to grow.
He emphasised on the need to have promotions that will help the industry grow through sensitising locals to buy their produce.
“Most people in the industry have never been invited for seminars to widen the industry by enlightening a great number of locals who lack technical know-how,” said Okello.
